Little Leprechauns hard at work

Leprechauns love to count their gold, so why not have a golden snack... We used tiny scoops to fill up our Leprechaun pots. If we used the big scoops, it only took 3 scoops...if we used the tiny ones, it took about 16! What a delicious pot of gold! (Pops Cereal & muffin tin liners)

I did this Fruit Loops rainbow a few years ago and loved the way it turned out. Now the little ones get their turn to make a rainbow!

First, I start each row with the correct color and then they finish coloring in the rainbow.

Once it is all colored, I put glue on one row at a time. They do such a good job sorting out the colors that they need. This year I also added the sparkly black felt for the pot and we used dot markers to make the gold coins. I added gold glitter over the coins to make they extra sparkly!

Shamrock Shakers- Each child can cut/ glue on pieces to form a shamrock. We then added stickers and yellow dot markers for the gold coins. Fill with beans or dried pasta and staple shut. An instant instrument!

The Shamrock Shake:
"Hokey-Pokey" tune

You put your shamrock in
You put your shamrock out
You put your shamrock in and you shake it all about.
You do the shamrock circle and you turn yourself around-
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

You shake your shamrock high
You shake your low
You shake your shamrock fast
and then you shake it ssllooww
You do the shamrock circle and you turn yourself around-
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

You shake your shamrock left,
You shake your shamrock right,
You shake your soft, then sake with all your might
You do the shamrock circle and you turn yourself around-
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Leprechaun Hunting

In honor of St. Patrick's Day today, the boys made Leprechaun Binoculars to use later in our day when we went on our hike. The 2 girls choose to make ribbon wavers. Both turned out very cute!

These are, of course, made out of empty toilet paper rolls. We colored on them, put on some shamrock stickers, taped the ends together and hung them by yarn. Presto!

For these I used the hard cardboard tubes that you find in your aluminum foil rolls or cling wrap. They are firmer than paper towel rolls and work perfect for things like this. We covered them in construction paper and stickers. We glued (and then taped) streamers in 4 colors to wave around as we walked!
My little leprechauns heading out for "Leprechaun Hunting". The boys had their binoculars and the girls were waving their ribbon wavers. We also took an empty PB jar with us in case we caught any.
This looks like it might be a good spot for a leprechaun to hide!
All we ended up seeing was 2 statues of them! Maybe next year!
Our parties are not complete without some type of cake! Today we enjoyed green cupcakes with striped frosting and gold sprinkles.
Lunch consisted of shamrock bologna and cheese (thanks to my much loved Pampered Chef mini cutters) green beans, and Leprechaun yogurt. We also had Leprechaun milk and ALL of the kids told me they didn't like it. Go figure!

St. Patrick's Day Rainbow & Cloud

Today we made a final decoration to hang for St. Patrick's Day. We used paper plates (cut in half), streamers, glue, and cotton balls.
I cut each color of streamer in two so it would look more "flow-y"

Attach the streamers to a line of glue along the cut part of the plate.

Cover the plate with cotton balls.

We hung them on both sides between the living and dining rooms for some color!

St. Patty's Tree and Rainbows

St. Patrick's Day Tree at night
My "authentic" St. Patty's Day beads from several years ago when Matt and I went out in Omaha with some friends bright and early one St. Patty's Day morning!
Rainbow with a pot of gold decoration:
We started with white pipe cleaners and the children strung 4 of each color in the rainbow on. I hooked the end in a "j" shape to keep them from sliding off.

The finished rainbow... I curled the ends into circles to give us some "base" to glue the "gold" onto. We used flat gold sequins for the coins.
The kids enjoyed being able to hang their rainbows on the tree.
The rainbows added a bit of color to the tree. I am trying to keep our tree up as long as I can with different holidays, but this one is hard for me. There is so much green it looks very "Christmas-y" and it's bugging me! I'm not a Christmas tree in March kind of girl! I can't wait to add more color and jazz it up for Easter and spring.

Our finished rainbows with a pot of gold!
