Have you tried microwave puff paint yet?

I love this easy and fun craft for kids. I like doing it myself, what am I talking about. The Flipflops and Applesauce blog brought me this idea a few months ago.

The ingredients are simple:
4 Tablespoons self-rising flour
4 Tablespoons salt
water
food coloring

Mix your salt and flour and then add water until it is painting like consistancy. Divide into # of paint colors you will want and then add food coloring! Presto!

Paint onto cardboard, cardstock, or something similar.... The first time I re-used empty cereal boxes and we painted on the plain side from the inside of the box. We were making square pumpkins from the book Spookley the Square Pumpkin. I gave the kids an outline and they used the paint to color in the parts (somewhat anyhow!)

Today we used the center of paper plates and hung them on our tree.
Once you have painted your design, microwave for 20-30 seconds. It will puff up and get hard. It is like magic in your microwave every time!
