Valentine's Day Tree

I wasn't sure how I was going to like having my "Christmas Tree" up for this long, but I am enjoying keeping it decorated for the other holidays and celebrations. When I had it decorated for New Years's, I still felt like it was too Christmas-y, but now with the Valentine's Day decorations, I do really like it. The pictures don't really do the tree justice, but every time I look at it either in the day or evening when the red lights are lit up, I like it. I have a red felt skirt with some heart material on top of that. I have two special little books and an old tin laying on top of the skirt. On the wall I have framed a pretty card I recieved last year from one of my daycare families. I love the vintage look of the card and wanted to save it. Hanging on the tree are the red lights, red glitter hearts, a jeweled tree topper, and we also stuck in a felt heart that B made last year.

Last week the kids painted some white construction paper with pink, purple, and red using a variety of brushes and sponges. On Monday we traced hearts on the back in 3 sizes and cut them out and I assembled them into 3 dimensional decorations to hang. I have seen these done on several blogs lately and wanted to give them a try. I really like how they turned out!

With all the paper scraps that were left from the pages the children painted, I hated to throw it away, the colors were so festive for the holiday. I used a red heart I had laying around that was cut out of cardstock. I cut the pieces into half way similar sizes in squares, rectangles, and triangles and we glued them onto and made a quick decoration for the door, as well as using paper that would have otherwise gone in the trash! We could have further embellished this with glitter or other decorations, but I was happy with what we had with the leftover paper.
