In 1997 I moved to New Jersey to become a live-in nanny for a family I had found through a nanny agency in Nebraska. Several of the friends I met while living there were nannies for friends of the family I worked for. This meant that we were all away from our real families over holidays if we did not choose to fly home. One friend, Alyssia, who was from western Nebraska and I were particularly good friends. We were both invited to spend Thanksgiving with our nanny families, but we always enjoyed seeing the sites of things in the City. We had both grown up watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade on TV so it was only fitting that we go see it live in person. We got up very early and took the train into NYC. We arrived at 6 AM and proceded to wait for several more hours until the parade would actually start. My camera broke after about 5 minutes of the parade, but I was able to capture a few shots from the beginning. It was an experience I will always remember !
