Spring Reading Thing 2009

Callapidder Days is having a fun reading challenge for Spring. There is still time to join in! It is no pressure and open to anyone! I love reading so I've selected several books on my list that I want to read. I don't quite think I'll get through all of them, but I'll try my best. Here they are in no particular order (except I will start with Yada Yada first since I already have it checked out from the library):

"Yada Yada Prayer Group #3" by Neta Jackson

"A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini"

"The Memory Keepers Daughter" by Kim Edwards

"Jemima J" by Jane Green

"Dewey" by Vicki Myron

"The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes" by Diane Chamberlain

"The Mermaid Chair" by Sue Monk Kidd

"The Friday Night Knitting Club" by Kate Jacobs

"The Year of Fog" by Michelle Richmond

"The Kite Runner' by Khaled Hosseini

Several of these books I have seen on blogs, in stores, or others who I know have been reading them. One of the Spring Reading Thing guidelines is that you can set other goals for yourself during this time. Here is mine:

As usual, I do not want to buy any of these books. I am a big supporter of our local library and buy lots and lots of books at garage sales. (okay, that is buying them but I don't pay over a dollar for one!) I lend out and borrow books all the time and want to continue this!

I will be posting again in June to let you know how I did on the challenge. Check out Callapidder Days on Friday to see what the other participants are reading.

Feel free to leave a comment if you have read any of these books and let me know what you thought!

  1. Oh, that's a super list, I hope you can find them all. I've read Dewey, and Memory Keepers Daughter, and Mermaid Chair, and The Friday Night Knitting Club is on my list this time. Have you read any other Sue Monk Kidd? Mermaid Chair is good, but her others are even better. Good luck, and happy reading. :)

  2. Great list - there are a bunch of them I want to read. I have read The Mermaid Chair and I loved it. Read it right after DS#2 was born.

  3. Ooh, it seems like we have similar tastes! I've added THREE books to my TBR list from yours - The Friday Night Knitting Club, The Secret Life of Cee Cee Wilkes, and The Year of Fog. Except I'm not sure if, as a mother of a young daughter, The Year of Fog would be too sad and frightening for me. I can't wait to hear what you think of it.

  4. Great list, Amber -- lots of good books! I really liked The Kite Runner and Friday Night Knitting Club. And I have Dewey and A Thousand Splendid Suns on my TBR list, even though they didn't make my challenge list for this spring.

Good job on using your library, too. I'm so horrible about that, though I'm hoping that when my 2-year-old starts screaming less in public, I'll start going to the library more. :)

    Thanks for joining the challenge!

  5. Oooh-- I love your list! I have 1000 Suns on mine too. I've been really curious about the Year of Fog.

I get most of my books free (review copies), but I do love lending them out (whether I buy them or get them).

  6. I have read all of your list and believe that I have them all on my bookshelf or at friends' homes. Send me an email if you have trouble finding one and Ill see if I can't help you out.

  7. Great list of books to read! I want to read Dewey too, what a cute cover!

  8. Great list; I've read them all (except Jemma J). Happy Reading.

  9. I will get around to reading Dewey one of these days. :)

  10. Love your list. I just finished the Dewey book and really enjoyed it. Happy reading!

  11. You have so many books on my to be read list. I hope you enjoy them :)

  12. The Yada Yada books are some of my absolute favorites. Great list!

  13. I've been meaning to read Dewey. :) Happy reading!

  14. i loved the friday night knitting books, and have been meaning to get to dewey for awhile now. enjoy!

  15. The Year of Fog is on my list of books to read this year. Hopefullyyou enjoy it!

  16. I'm REALLY interested in your reviews on these titles! I've been curious about some of them for a while--your thoughts may just tip the scales and put them on my shelves!

  17. Great list of books - I've read about half and almost all the others interest me - a few I haven't heard of so I have to go check them out. Good luck with the challenge!

So, what do ya' think?
